The missing link in quantum education
Record growth and breakthrough advances in quantum technologies are driving increasing demand for a skilled quantum workforce. Universities are expanding quantum curricula, but hands-on experimental training often lags behind theory. To prepare the next generation, institutions need to provide hands-on access to low-temperature technologies that support modern quantum education.
Yet traditional cryogenic systems are complex, bulky, and designed for expert research environments. They require specialized training, significant infrastructure, and careful supervision, making them difficult to integrate into structured teaching labs or student-led experiments.

The L-Type Rapid for quantum training
Rapid cooldown and simple operation
The L-Type Rapid is designed to remove the operational barriers that traditionally limit access to cryogenic experiments. Its fully automatic operation significantly reduces the complexity typically associated with cryogenic measurements, making it possible for students to operate the system independently, without constant expert supervision. With its record fast cooldown of less than 4 hours to millikelvin temperatures, students can prepare, run, and complete a real quantum experiment within a single day in the lab.
Flexible puck system for teaching and research
At the core of the L-Type Rapid is its puck-based sample loader. Experiments are mounted on pucks that can be swapped quickly, allowing switching between different teaching content from day to day. This approach makes the system exceptionally flexible: it can serve as a teaching platform during scheduled courses and transition seamlessly into a research instrument outside of teaching hours. By combining simplicity with research-grade measurement capability, the L-Type Rapid becomes an efficient shared resource for both education and active research environments.
Putting practical experience at the forefront
How the L-Type Rapid enables quantum training at the University of Copenhagen
A day in a modern quantum training lab

With the L-Type Rapid, low-temperature experiments fit naturally into a structured teaching schedule. What once required days of preparation and expert supervision can now be integrated into a single lab session.
In the morning, students prepare the experiment on the puck and initiate the automated cooldown.
The cooldown time can be used to teach the theoretical foundations and experimental techniques required for the experiment.
After lunch, measurement scripts and electronics are prepared, and students perform hands-on experiments collecting and analyzing real low-temperature data before the day concludes.
The result is a complete experimental cycle within one day: preparation, theory, measurement, and interpretation all carried out by students themselves.

What our customers say

Asbjørn Drachmann
Research Consultant, Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen
“The L-Type Rapid is a great tool for the Quantum Training Lab. It gives very fast access to millikelvin temperatures, it is very easy and fast to exchange between samples in experiments, and it has very low maintenance.”
